My great granddaughter ran into my office last Tuesday, all excited about “a King” who fixed it so me and Mabel can go to school together. He got murdered. Did you know that, grandma?” I assured her I did, while remembering much different conversations with my grandmother, nearly 70 years ago, now.
After reading countless articles on racism this month in honor of Martin Luther King’s Birthday, I’m pleased to report that I’m apparently the very last white racist in America. Maybe in the entire world. And I’m pretty old so racism will be completely eradicated, statistically speaking, in 15 years, 11 months and 22 days; it will die with me. There’s no need to worry about me spreading the infection during the time I have left; no one who’s met me in the last 50 years knows I’m a racist.
